Rehabilitate the Jean Lafitte NHP (JELA) Visitor Center in the French Quarter, 419 Decatur Street to include the interpretive themes of New Orleans Jazz NHP (JAZZ). Built in 1882, the Jean Lafitte NHP (JELA) Visitor Center is a 32,429 square foot four-story brick and wood structure. The ground floor mainly serves as the JELA French Quarter unit visitor center, and the upper floors serve as headquarters for both JELA and JAZZ (which are co-managed). The JAZZ visitor center in Dutch Alley is a leased 1,800 sf one story space with exhibits, book sales, and a performance room. Neither the JAZZ nor JELA French Quarter unit visitor center attracts high visitation, and the park cannot afford to fully staff both visitor centers. Consolidating visitor operations in a single building will eliminate a leased visitor center on Dutch Alley, only half a mile away. This project will:

· Correct backlog repairs at 419 Decatur Street Visitor Center.

· Reconfigure the visitor access on the street front.

· Reconfigure the primary visitor space including moving non-historic walls and mechanical systems.

· Replace interpretive media.

· Reconfigure access to the public restrooms.

· Modify other visitor spaces (as needed to optimize function of the VC consolidation) as defined by Schematic Design scope and Contract Price Schedule, dated 2025-01-15.

· Note: Design must incorporate adequate and flexible space to accommodate musical performance venues and interpretive exhibits.
