New Fixed Base Operator Terminal Elevates the Arrival Experience at One of Georgia’s Busiest General Aviation Airports
Kennesaw, GA — CROFT is proud to celebrate the completion of the new Ascension FBO terminal at Cobb County International Airport – McCollum Field, a project that reflects the power of collaboration, thoughtful design, and a shared vision for the future of aviation in Cobb County.
Designed by CROFT and delivered through a successful Design-Build partnership with Rainwater Construction Company, the new 6,987-square-foot terminal serves as the front door for corporate and private aviation travelers arriving in metro Atlanta. The facility combines operational efficiency with a hospitality-driven experience, creating a welcoming environment for passengers, pilots, and flight crews alike.
Located just 20 minutes from downtown Atlanta, Ascension FBO provides a full range of aviation services and amenities, including executive pilot lounges, conference space, aircraft maintenance services, fuel operations, valet services, hangar access, and 24-hour availability. The new terminal was designed to support both the functional demands of a modern FBO and the elevated customer experience that defines the Ascension brand.
“Our goal was to create more than just a terminal building,” said Stacey Chapman, Principal and SVP of Corporate Strategy at CROFT. “We wanted to design a facility that reflects the quality-of-service Ascension delivers every day while creating a memorable first impression for visitors arriving in Cobb County. This building serves as a gateway to our community and showcases the continued growth and investment taking place at the airport.”
The project required close coordination between the design and construction teams to accommodate the unique operational requirements of an active aviation environment. Through the Design-Build process, CROFT and Rainwater worked together from concept through construction to ensure seamless execution, cost efficiency, and schedule certainty.
As aviation activity continues to grow throughout the region, the new facility strengthens Cobb County International Airport’s position as a premier destination for business and private aviation. The airport offers direct access to metro Atlanta while serving as an important economic driver for Cobb County and the surrounding region.
For CROFT, the project represents another opportunity to deliver architecture that connects people, supports economic development, and creates lasting community impact. “We are grateful to Ascension FBO, Rainwater Construction, Cobb County International Airport, and the entire project team for the opportunity to bring this vision to life,” Chapman added. “Projects like this demonstrate what can be accomplished when great partners come together around a common goal.”
